Oldcastle Materials, a federation of companies with more than 1,200 locations in 41 states, is a vertically integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix concrete and paving services.

James Hasler, vice president of Case Construction’s North American division, says Case will support Oldcastle’s equipment needs through its network of 240 dealer locations across the U.S.

Miami Pump Contractor Operates Florida’s Largest Boom Pump

October 10, 2007
Sermac America Inc. recently delivered its largest operating concrete boom pump to C&C Concrete Pumping Inc. in Miami.

“We have large jobs, so we had a need for a large pump," says Pepi Cancio, Jr., president of C&C Concrete Pumping Inc. "The five-section, 62-meter pump gives us the flexibility we need to cover basically any job, so we have a lot more opportunities.”

The pump was delivered in August and is the largest operating concrete boom pump in Florida.

"With a pump this large, energy consumption can be an issue," Cancio says. "With the Sermac pump, we can pump all the time in low idle. It saves on fuel and on the equipment, and that's important to us."

N.C. Counties Recycling Landfill Rocks Into Aggregate

October 10, 2007
Two North Carolina counties are crushing landfill rocks and turning them into aggregate, which they plan to sell to contractors, in addition to using for roads in and out of the landfill.

Brunswick County, following the lead of Horry County, last week the county began grinding 60,000 tons of concrete it has accumulated for several years. Brunswick County reuses about 6,000 to 7,000 tons - about 30 percent - of the construction and demolition debris it receives annually, and that doesn't count discarded appliances and tires. Horry County's construction and demolition landfill recycled about 44,500 tons of waste last year, Hardee said, most of which was aggregate.

The counties expect to sell much of the recycled aggregate to contractors for roadbeds and driveways.

Donations Sought for World of Concrete Auction

September 12, 2007
The Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program – a business intensive program that awards students with a four-year bachelor of science degree in Concrete Industry Management – is seeking donations for their third annual auction, to be held at the World of Concrete on January 24, 2008.

The money raised from the CIM Auction, to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, will benefit the CIM National Steering Committee and support the CIM Programs at Middle Tennessee State University, Arizona State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and the California State University–Chico.

Organizers hope the 2008 Auction is even bigger than the 2007 Auction, which raised approximately $500,000.

Among the items auctioned last year were a McNeilus/International concrete mixer truck, BASF admixtures, a Putzmeister portable grout and concrete pump, a Command Alkon batch control system, 10 Enviroguard mixer washout systems and many more.

Those interested in making a donation should contact Wally Johnson at 713.499.6229 or wjohnson@us-concrete.com; Janice Tucciarone at 216-839-7016 or janice.tucciarone@basf.com; or Brian Gallagher at 410-850-7000 or bgallagher@structural.net.

New Filtration Assembly Improves Productivity

August 15, 2007
Ruwac has redesigned its MicroClean filtration system for improved performance and increased productivity for its portable vacuum line. The new filtration assembly for dry material allows filters to stay cleaner longer with less built up dust, ensuring reduced maintenance and fewer replacements.

A manual quick release assembly drops accumulated concrete dust from the filter and allows for more efficient cleaning. An innovative design keeps filter integrity intact to ensure dust-free operation and dustless environments for concrete workers.

The new dry-material filter assembly is included with all new vacuums for concrete dust pickup and is available as an upgrade for any existing portable concrete dust recovery machine.
